Royal Rangers is a program that was developed by Johnnie Barnes in 1962.  He was noticing that even though the Assemblies of God has had youth ministries dating back to 1925, something was missing in specialized ministry for boys.  A tragic loss to our congregations existed as countless boys left the church life, drifting away from GOD.  The solution was obvious:  Our growing denomination needed a program for boys only.  He started working on the program in 1960, just two years before the concrete plans were finalized.

The program was to include, above all else, goals that would instruct, challenge, and inspire our boys in the areas of Bible doctrine, Christian service, moral conduct, and the basic beliefs of our movement.  Other goals were to develop physical fitness, hobbies, skills, crafts, camping, and indoor/outdoor recreation.  Johnnie Barnes accepted and assumed leadership January 1, 1962, which has now become the program of choice for 50 countries.  Here are a couple of pictures one with some O.P. 50 boys in 1986 with Johnnie Barnes at the 1986 National Camporama, and our group at District Campout 2005 with the national commander Richard Mariott.
